Established in 1984, the Community Foundation for Southwest Washington is one of more than 700 community foundations in the United States.

We are governed by a volunteer Board of Directors consisting of individuals knowledgeable about and dedicated to the charitable activities of southwest Washington.

Our Foundation has granted more than $100 million since our inception. In 2010, we more than tripled the grant dollars awarded in 2009.

We are home to more than 260 separate funds which distribute hundreds of grants annually, addressing arts and culture; children’s issues; civic and community building; conservation; education; and health and human services.

We support the academic futures of approximately 190 students each year through 50 separate scholarship funds. More than $2 million in total scholarships has been awarded.

Our Community Giving Fund has awarded nearly 300 grants totaling nearly $2 million – ranging in size from $2,500 to our $200,000 Impact Grant – to support the vitality of our community in a results-oriented manner.

Our volunteer grant committees, experienced in local issues, guide the process of awarding grants to local nonprofit organizations with due diligence.

We are a leader in public-private-Community Foundation projects including Propstra Square; Firstenburg Community Center; Jack, Will & Rob Center; the Travis Hays 21st Century Learning Center; and Stan Rister Stadium.

Our Board invests endowed and expendable funds expertly and wisely with professional oversight provided by nationally renowned, independent investors.

We have earned four Council on Foundations awards for excellence in communications, including top honors for our “Give” campaign.

Our Foundation complies with the National Standards for U.S. Community Foundations in regards to our legal, ethical and operational practices.
