The Joan of Arc Scholarship Award
The view from Joan of Arc Mason’s Stevenson home encompassed the vast waters and sweeping majesty of the Columbia River Gorge. She drew inspiration from this magical place, and its expansiveness was deeply reflective of her own far-reaching vision.
A fiercely independent thinker with sparkling humor and an abiding love of music and dance, Joan was passionately American – flying the flag proudly each day from her deck. She was also devoted to her community, volunteering tirelessly wherever she saw need. Always she looked long into the future when she thought about giving back and serving others.
Joan died in 2005, but her vision and passionate commitment to community continue. Each year, several students receive scholarships in her name, honoring “the promise of the future” that Joan herself celebrated with such spirit and devotion.
