For Dr. Laird McRae and his wife Carol, memories of their Depression-era beginnings in South Dakota have continuously affirmed the importance of community giving, as well as their deep gratitude for the abundance of their years in the Pacific Northwest. Here they raised their five children, while immersing themselves in community life; and Dr. McCrae dedicated himself to 40 years of family practice in Longview.
Recently, the McRaes sought ways to give back to the region that has given them so much. Their Charitable Remainder Trust pays them income now while also providing for their future philanthropic giving.
“For retired people, this is a very satisfying way to give that offers both flexibility and security,” says Dr. McRae. “And it’s a very happy thought that these dollars will eventually serve the organizations that have such a warm spot in our heart.”
