Dedicated to servicemen and women in need
Sgt. John “Kyle” Daggett served in Operation Iraqi Freedom, Sadr City, Baghdad, Iraq. He was gravely injured on May 1, 2008 when a rocket-propelled grenade hit his vehicle. He passed away 15 days later at 21 years of age. The Sgt. John Kyle Daggett Memorial Fund was created by Kyle’s mother who is dedicated to helping injured servicemen and women, knowing that had Kyle survived, he would have needed long-term rehabilitation, care, financial help, and moral support. “It is a great comfort to know that Kyle may continue to help others as a tribute to his service, dedication, and sacrifices. We were all blessed to have known him,” remarked Kyle’s uncle, Tracy Phillips, a resident of southwest Washington.
Kyle Daggett was born in Scottsdale, Arizona. At the age of 18, Kyle enlisted in the Army to become part of the Army’s elite group of Airborne Rangers with his close family friend. In high school, he was active in football, and was an adventurous hunter and fisherman. Kyle was also known for his kindness and loyalty, volunteering at a nursing home in Arizona. While serving in the Army, Kyle was awarded with the Bronze Star Medal, the Purple Heart, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Iraqi Campaign Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal, the Ranger Badge, the Combat Infantryman’s Badge, the Expert Infantryman’s Badge, and the Parachutist Badge.
The Sgt. John Kyle Daggett Memorial Fund supports charitable organizations that provide direct assistance to U.S. servicemen and women and their families across America. The fund is open to contributions from the general public. Gifts may be made to the Sgt. John Kyle Daggett Memorial Fund in care of the Community Foundation, 1053 Officers Row, Vancouver, WA 98661 via our Online Donation form.
