ANIMAL WELFARE

Humane Society for Southwest Washington Building Endowment Fund

The Humane Society for Southwest Washington is dedicated to fostering a community where all creatures are treated with compassion and respect. This fund supports ongoing maintenance and repair of the new animal shelter facility located in east Vancouver.

Humane Society for Southwest Washington Endowment Fund

This fund supports the operations and programs of the Humane Society of Southwest Washington, which provides compassionate and respectful care for animals from southwest Washington and surrounding communities.

Arts and Learning Endowment Fund

Established in 2003, this fund provides support for local Clark County organizations focused on the arts and humanities.

Vancouver Symphony Endowment Fund

Support from this fund enriches the quality of life in southwest Washington by providing world class talent through live musical performances and educational outreach programs in local schools.  This endowment fund provides ongoing support for the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra and its programs.

Barry Endowment Fund for Children and Families

Established by a bequest gift from Jack and Nancy Barry, this fund provides support for issues such as nutrition assistance for disadvantaged families with children up to age five, emergency medications for low-income families, camp scholarships for neglected and abused children, and Clark County funding for the Principal’s Checkbook Program.

 

Betsy Ross Aquatic Trust

Established in memory of Janice Elizabeth “Betsy” Ross, this fund supports children’s aquatics programs, making them safe and accessible for as many children as possible.

Children’s Trust Endowment

Established in 1988, this endowment fund supports the Children’s Trust Fund, which addresses the needs of at-risk children in Clark, Cowlitz and Skamania counties.

 

Children’s Trust Fund

The Children’s Trust Fund supports the unmet needs of children in Clark, Cowlitz and Skamania counties.  Contributions to this fund enable the Community Foundation’s granting committee to annually award grants to nonprofit organizations that address the critical needs of children.

Clark County Early Learning Fund in Honor of Richard and Sarah Melching

Charitable distributions from this fund are made to nonprofit organizations and government agencies in Clark County that serve families and children, ages birth to age 5, who are Clark County residents.

Clark County Family YMCA Fund

Offering a great place for children and youth to participate in sports programs and fun family activities, YMCA’s programs help children and families improve their health and well-being while building a stronger sense of community.  This fund supports their ongoing programs.

 

Jack, Will & Rob Center Sustaining Fund

Established in memory of three Camas School District students who lost their lives in 1999, this fund supports the operating expenses for programming of the Jack, Will and Rob Center in Camas, WA.  The Center offers after-school programs that promote the well-being of children and youth in a structured, safe and fun environment.

Jack, Will and Rob Kids’ Fund

Established in memory of Jack, Will and Rob Warren, grants from this fund provide after-school youth services in Camas and Washougal, Washington, with an emphasis on providing a safe place for kids to learn and play after school.

Justice for Children Expendable Fund

This fund supports the Children's Justice Center, which works to protect the rights of child victims of felony sexual and physical abuse while investigating the crimes, prosecuting the suspects and providing victims and non-offending family members a safe and supportive place to address the trauma.

Travis Hays Literacy Fund

Established by the Hays family in memory of their son, Travis; contributions to this endowment fund support after-school programs for students at the Travis Hays 21st Century Learning Center within Salmon Creek Elementary.

YMCA of Clark County

This fund supports youth and family programs in Clark County.  Programs are all inclusive and are targeted to improving the overall health and well-being of all participates.

Youth Philanthrophy Fund

Supported by generous contributions from the general public and the Community Foundation, the Youth Philanthropy Fund supports Clark County nonprofit organizations.  For 2011, students have determined the program areas of focus are children and youth.

 

As the next generation of philanthropists takes root, the Youth Philanthropy Program was established by the Community Foundation to engage youth in philanthropy and in their community.  We work with junior and senior high school students to increase their awareness of local community needs and help them learn the many ways in which they can help address those needs.  Students work through the entire granting process, from assessing community needs, to determining what their areas of focus will be each year, to creating, distributing and reviewing grant applications.  The process includes conducting site visits and participating in volunteer activities, where they experience first-hand what an integral part volunteers are to an organization’s operations.  Students ultimately decide which programs to recommend to the Community Foundation Board of Directors for funding.  Grants are awarded by the students each May.

CIVIC & COMMUNITY BUILDING

Camas Community Center Building Fund

Contributions to this fund support the efforts of preparing, planning and implementing a capital campaign and the costs of constructing a community center in Camas, WA.

Claudia Z. Mack Endowment Fund

This fund was established to support programs of the Longview Community Church in Cowlitz County.

Columbian Waterfront Access Fund

Established by The Columbian, this fund provides grants for projects that increase public access along the Clark County portion of the Columbia River waterfront, enabling visitors to more easily enjoy its many attributes.

Discovery Walk Fund

Established by a generous gift from the Langsdorf family, this fund helps support the annual International Discovery Walk Festival and Volksmarch, held in Vancouver, WA each spring.

Fund for Historic Fort Vancouver

This fund provides support for Fort Vancouver’s building projects and interpretive and educational programs.  Considered the historical, economic and cultural center for the Pacific Northwest, its story is told through educational programs and a world-class archeology collection.

Habitat for Humanity

Established in June 2010, this fund will support Evergreen Habitat for Humanity, a Christian organization that builds and rehabilitates simple, decent houses with the help of homeowner (partner) families.  Established in 1991, Evergreen Habitat for Humanity develops communities by building safe, affordable housing

 

Hulda Klager Lilac Gardens Fund

This fund was established to help guarantee a perpetual source of funding for the care and upkeep of the Hulda Klager Lilac Gardens, a national historic site in Woodland, WA.

Vancouver Police and Fire Public Safety Endowment Fund

This fund supports the combined efforts of both the Police & Fire Departments for the City of Vancouver in addressing special outreach efforts not covered by city funding.

Columbia Land Trust

The Trust is dedicated to conserving signature landscapes and vital habitat together with the landowners and communities of the Columbia River region.  This fund supports their organization’s ongoing conservation efforts.

 

Columbia Springs Environmental Education Center Fund

This fund supports environmental education programs at Columbia Springs, which are presented within a historically significant urban setting, for school students and the general public.

 

East Fork of the Lewis River Legacy Fund

This fund promotes and enhances conservation and interpretation efforts for the East Fork of the Lewis River Watershed.

Hazel Defenbaugh Fund for Trails

This fund was established to improve and expand the trail system within the City of Vancouver and Clark County.

Camas Educational Foundation Endowment Fund

This fund supports excellence in education for Camas students by funding innovative programs when traditional funds falls short.

Esther Talback Memorial Fund

Established with a bequest gift from the estate of Esther Talback, this fund benefits high school students enrolled in vocational programs in the Kelso/Longview area.

I Have a Dream Operating Fund

This fund supports the operations of I Have a Dream of Southwest Washington, which empowers children from low-income families to achieve higher education by providing them with guaranteed tuition support and equipping them with the skills, knowledge, and habits they need to gain entry to higher education and succeed in college and beyond.

 

Patrick Hough Endowment Fund

Established with a bequest gift from the estate of Patrick Hough, the fund supports agricultural and horticultural educational programs within the Battle Ground School District in Clark County.

 

Pomeroy Living History Farm Endowment Fund

The Pomeroy Living History Farm is an interactive educational farm and museum that depicts domestic and farm life from both the early 20th century and modern perspectives.  This fund provides support for their facility and its programs.

 

Snow Bunny Lodge/Karen O’Brien Education Fund

The mission of this fund is to support organizations that provide education for children and youth, through recreation.

 

Workforce Development Youth Programs Endowment Fund

This fund supports disadvantaged youth from Clark, Cowlitz, and Wahkiakum counties through workforce development programs, which help youth gain valuable knowledge and skills that encourage life-long learning and understanding of the workplace.

Columbia Presbyterian Church Foundation Fund

Established in 1998, this designated fund supports charitable programs of the Columbia Presbyterian Church in Vancouver, WA.

Friends of the Carpenter

A ministry changing lives by welcoming all regardless of life situation or status. Woodwork activities create a caring and inclusive fellowship where everyone fits in and works together. Positive relationships and interactions with people of faith shape a new sense of purpose and direction in life.

Our Lady of Lourdes School Endowment Fund

Providing religious education to students in a caring environment that is conducive to academic and spiritual growth, this fund provides general support for the school.

Bob Kendall Memorial Fund

Established in 1994, this fund provides support for Open House Ministries’ homeless shelter and its outreach programs.

 

Butler Endowment Fund

Established in 1991, its purpose is to provide assistance for families in maintaining a family member, stricken with Alzheimer’s, in the family home.  The fund is limited to providing no more than 50% of the total in home cost for any one individual.

 

Cascade Employees Assistance Fund

This fund, established by Bank of the Cascades, helps support employees who are suffering severe financial hardship, as the direct result of a catastrophic event in their lives.

Emergency Disaster Relief Fund

This fund supports emergency relief efforts as a result of natural disasters.  Grants are made only to organizations that have a presence in the United States, but those organizations may assist in worldwide disaster relief efforts.

Free Clinic of Southwest Washington Endowment Fund

This fund supports the operations and programs of the Free Clinic of Southwest Washington, which provides compassionate healthcare along with dental, vision and emergency medication assistance to those who are uninsured and underinsured.

 

Fund for the Free Clinic Dental Program

Established through the generosity of an anonymous donor, the purpose of this fund is to address preventative (check-ups, sealants, fluoride varnishes) and urgent restorative dental care (extractions, fillings, crowns) for low-income children, ages 0-18.

 

Innovative Services NW Adult Programs

This fund provides support for employment training and support services for adults who have disabilities or other disadvantages.

Innovative Services NW Children’s Programs Fund

This fund provides therapy support for Clark County children who have disabilities or other developmental disadvantages, and their families.  Services include therapy, childcare, intervention, education and support for families.

Life Link

Support from this fund enables Columbia Pastoral Counseling Center to provide counseling for persons struggling with life issues and to offer opportunities for spiritual growth and wellness.

 

Melody Teppola NW Natural Employee Catastrophic Care Fund

Established by NW Natural, this fund helps support employees who are suffering severe financial hardship, as the direct result of a catastrophic event in their lives.

People in Need Family Fund

Established in partnership with The Columbian, funds are designated to support nonprofit organizations that address health and human service issues such as hunger, homelessness, and health care.  The fund also supports The Salvation Army’s administration of Clark County’s Adopt-A-Family Program. Grants from this Fund are recommended to our BOD by the Community Giving Fund Grants Advisory Committee.

People in Need Help Fund

Established in partnership with The Columbian, funds support nonprofit organizations that address basic health and human service issues such as hunger, homelessness, and health care, as well as organizations working with at-risk children and youth.

Sgt. John Kyle Daggett Memorial Fund

This fund was established in memory of Sgt. John “Kyle” Daggett, who served in Operation Iraqi Freedom, Sadr City, Baghdad, Iraq, until he was killed in May 2008 when a rocket-propelled grenade hit his vehicle. Contributions to this fund support charitable organizations that provide direct assistance to U.S. servicemen and women and their families, across America.

 

Share

Share’s ongoing commitment to lead the hungry and homeless to self-sufficiency through their many programs, is assisted by the three funds listed below.  Their programs provide food, shelter, transitional housing, education and outreach programs to those in need.

              

  • Share Fixed Endowment Fund

This fund provides some of the long-term financial support needed for Share’s programs.

  • Share Operating Reserve Fund

This fund provides some of the support needed for the operational costs of Share’s facility and its programs.

 

Vancouver Women’s Foundation

Their mission is simple – women of means assisting women in need.  Annually pooling their charitable gifts enables a large group of women to award many grants to address the acute needs of struggling women in the greater Clark County area.


Walt Whitman Fund

Established in 1993, this endowment fund supports organizations addressing gay and lesbian issues in Southwest Washington.

AAUW Vancouver Branch Scholarship Fund

Scholarships awards from this fund support women enrolled in post-secondary education, in accordance with guidelines established by AAUW.

Andrew J. Shields Memorial Scholarship Fund

Named for Pfc. Andrew J. Shields, who was killed in Afghanistan in 2008, this scholarship is For graduating seniors of southwest Washington high schools who have been enrolled in any accredited Fire Cadet program in southwest Washington.

Angela Svendsen Memorial Music Scholarship Fund

Established in memory of Angela Svendsen, a professional musician and an educator, this fund provides tuition assistance for students graduating from Clark County, WA high schools, who will be pursuing a college degree in music education or music performance.

Ann Doyle Scholarship Endowment Fund

For students entering or currently enrolled in health care programs at Clark College in Vancouver, WA.

 

Beverly Canale Memorial Scholarship Fund

For graduating seniors from Clark County, WA high schools, who attended Silver Star Elementary within the Evergreen School District.

 

Buck Scholarship Fund

This scholarship provides tuition assistance to eligible students who attend Our Lady of Lourdes School in Vancouver, WA.

 

Chan Barnett YWCA Scholarship Fund

This scholarship is designated to assist women who are clients of the YWCA Clark County, with tuition and other educational related expenses.

 

Dave Chamberlain Scholarship Fund

This fund is designated for scholarships for graduating seniors of the Evergreen School District in Vancouver, WA.  Preference may be given to those pursuing a career in communications or technology.

 

Florence Jessen Scholarship Fund

Established with a bequest gift from Florence Jessen, this fund is designated for college scholarships for graduating seniors of Stevenson High School in Stevenson, WA.

 

Gabriel Antonio Fazio Scholarship Fund

This scholarship provides tuition assistance for students attending Our Lady of Lourdes School in Vancouver, WA.

 

I Have a Dream Scholarship Endowment Fund

This fund supports efforts to assist children and youth from low-income areas of Vancouver, WA, to become productive citizens.  This is done through a long-term program of mentoring, tutoring, and enrichment activities, and with an assured opportunity for a higher education.


Jack & Nancy Barry Scholarship Endowment Fund

Designated for students entering or currently enrolled in health care programs at Clark College.

 

Jack Kleinman Memorial Fund for Volcano Research

Named in memory of Jack Kleinman, this scholarship provides grants for those engaged in volcano research.

 

La Center Community Scholarship Foundation Fund

Established in 1993, this fund awards scholarships to graduating seniors of La Center High School in La Center, WA.

 

Longview Rotary Scholarship Memorial Endowment Fund

This scholarship provides college tuition assistance for graduates of Longview, WA high schools.

Margaret and William Ginder Scholarship Fund

To provide college tuition assistance for graduating seniors of Camas High School, Camas, WA, with special consideration given to students who intend to pursue a degree in Economics or History.

Michael and Mildred P. Tochen Scholarship Fund for the Arts

Established in memory of Michael and Mildred Tochen for their volunteerism and love of the arts. Scholarship funds provide tuition assistance for students from Shelby County, TN who plan to pursue an education in the arts.

Rick Melching Scholarship Fund

Awarded to graduates of a high school within the Evergreen School District who plan to pursue a course of study in public education.

Thomas and Velda Mae La Pierre Scholarship Fund

This scholarship provides tuition assistance for eligible students attending Our Lady of Lourdes School in Vancouver, WA.

Trowbridge Children Memorial Scholarship Fund

This scholarship fund provides two annual scholarships to graduating seniors of Goldendale High School; one to a female athlete and one to a male athlete.  Students are selected based upon their achievement of excellence in both athletics and academics and their intent to continue their participation in athletics at a college or university.

This designated fund helps support the Community Foundation’s ongoing operations. Contributions to this fund help keep our overhead low and provide a permanent resource that will help serve local needs, forever.
