HOW DO I MAKE A GRANT FROM MY FUND?

One Easy Step For You!

•   Complete the Grant Recommendation Form below or contact Anne Digenis or Shirley Gross. Donor Services Officers.
Grant recommendations are welcome throughout the year.

You may grant on a schedule convenient to you – whether quarterly, semi-annually, or annually.

                         Grant Recommendation Form

For Designated Funds Only:

•   In your Fund Agreement, you designated the charitable organization(s) you wish to support and the distribution schedule. The Community Foundation is fulfilling your intentions, and you do not need to complete a Grant Distribution Recommendation Form. If you have additional questions, please contact contact a Donor Services Officer at the Community Foudnation.

The Community Foundation Will:

•   Ensure you are granting to a qualified nonprofit organization in sound standing through staff research of tax-exempt status documentation, annual reports, programs, and board and staff leadership.
Prepare grant award letters and checks which include your fund’s name, purpose of your grant, and instructions for acknowledging your generosity.
Provide you with written confirmation of your grant awards.
Forward correspondence from granting organizations.

Why do I see the word “recommend” when I make a grant?
When you made your gift to establish your fund, you received a tax deduction. Your gift became the property of the Community Foundation and subject to its legal control and variance power, required by federal law. Variance power means the Community Foundation’s Board has the authority and responsibility to exercise complete oversight and discretion when approving grants. This ensures that your tax deduction will be protected and that grants from your fund will best fulfill their intended purpose. Hence, when you want to make a grant from your fund, you “recommend” it to the Board for their approval.
