First Citizen Award
Annually, a citizen (or couple) is selected by a panel of previous First Citizens to receive the award. Selection is based on effectiveness in leadership roles, raising community standards and expectations, and exemplary giving of time, self, and resources.
Each year the Community Foundation for Southwest Washington in partnership with The Columbian newspaper and several other community organizations, recognizes an outstanding Clark County citizen who has demonstrated volunteer leadership, community service, and meritorious service both in their community and regionally, through presentation of the First Citizen award.
2007 First Citizen Recipient: John "JD" White, a planning consultant and owner of The JD White Co. Inc. The company is now a subsidiary of national engineering firm Berger/ABAM Engineers Inc. The firm has been an integral part of modernization of downtown Vancouver, the development of the Port of Vancouver and construction of Washington State University Vancouver.
White's volunteer activities include serving on the board for the Clark County YMCA and the Clark College Board of Trustees. He also serves on the Southwest Washington Medical Center Board of Trustees. He founded the Clark County Responsible Growth Forum.
Save the Date! The 2008 First Citizen Reception will take place on Thursday, June 5th from 4:00 - 6:00 pm at The Columbian's new building.
