Fast Facts : The Heritage Society

Why should I inform the Community Foundation of my planned gift?
We are often unaware of a donor’s charitable plans until after he or she has passed away. In such cases, we are unable to express our appreciation or address questions regarding the donor's intentions.
How can I include the Community Foundation in my will or living trust?
The most common way is via a charitable bequest. This gift supports the Foundation in the future and still allows you to use your assets during your lifetime. Our Sample Bequest Language can get you started here.
How do I make a bequest? Is it revocable?
You do not need to rewrite your will or other documents to make a bequest. You merely add a codicil, or amendment. Bequests are flexible and revocable, allowing you to adjust the terms during your lifetime.
Are there financial benefits to consider when making a bequest?
Yes. The full amount of your gift is deductible from your taxable estate. There are many options related to structuring your gift to the Foundation, so we often recommend involving a professional advisor.
How can I become a member of the Heritage Society?
You can start by contacting the Community Foundation above. From there, a member of our staff will contact you to complete a Statement of Intent that clarifies your commitment and communicates your wishes.
What assets can I give to the Community Foundation through my estate?
You can leave any number of charitable gifts through your estate, including retirement plans, life insurance policies, securities, real estate, tangible personal property, deferred gifts, life income plans and even private foundations.
